Who cares about marketing strategies anyway?

Something I come across time and again with businesses I encounter is a real lack of strategy when it comes to their marketing efforts.  I myself am just as guilty - I wrote a simple strategy and had everything laid out in a rough sketch, but never bothered to refer back to it! So, why is it important to have a marketing strategy, and how do you build a business case for carving out the time each week to review and implement your strategy?
